May 16: I awoke to my husbands voice and wonderful Facebook messages!! One from Chloe who will be visiting WA state June 4-10!! YAY! And one from Sean that said Paddy Beag loves my book, Paddy Mor sends his hugs and kisses and Margaret wants 5 books and cards for her sisters store! So I had an emotional happy moment!!! Then I was chatting with Patrick on FB when dad called the house to tell them mom was in the hospital… not very responsive… She does not know her name or who she is or how old she is. So they are running tests and I will call them back in few hours to see if there is an update. Dad took her to her regular dr appt and the dr sent them to the emergency room at St Peters in Olympia. They think she may have had another stroke.
Big eyes!!! - Tyler Seth and I could not really communicate very well but we could do Big eyes, one eye (my Spock impersonation) and say Yum to each other!!! I sure miss him….
The church in Balangiga was damaged during the storm. A group from Germany is assisting in its rebuilding. It is still beautiful and I wonder what it looked like before the typhoon.
A marlin across from the church
A very damaged roof
I love the floor and architecture of this building
Anton - Mitzi's brother
A piece of the old foundation that the American troops burnt down in 1901
They apparently had the nice one stolen and this is a replacement.

I had the best eggs this morning Onion, tomato… so good…. and two cups of coffee! I am a happy girl! Today I will do laundry and take some more pictures around Balangiga. However, I have found that if I stay here in the portico the world comes to me. I just met a man from Pakistan who is with the World Health Organization. He has a beautiful soul and smile. He wanted to know where I was from and assumed I was with an aid organization, helping out here in the Philippines. When I told him I was from Seattle Wa and that this was a research trip for graduate school he began a conversation with me about how much he enjoys Frasier. Even though all of his friends watched the show Friends back home, he preferred Frasier! I agreed and enjoyed our conversation. Today he will host a seminar for local people to learn about safe water procedures. I love being here and being open to the Universe. I told Mitzi if I sit right here, the whole world comes to me. There is so much magic in this world!

Inside the municipal hall
Waiting to met the mayor
I met the mayor, Viscuso Di Lira, of Balangiga. He is Mitzi's uncle (1st cousin to Anita). He was telling me about the bells of Balangiga and gave me a name of a professor who wrote down the history of this town. I need to read his book! Maybe I will see if I can find him and send him a message.

The mosquitos are so bad in my room that Mitzi & Joland put up a net in my room.Yay! No more mosquito bites tonight! My poor face and left arm… crazy bitten! Just checked the firefly tree and no fireflies tonight. I did some drawing my t-shirt and the girls decided they needed me to draw on their clothes too! YAY! Something to do! So I drew on shirts from Gina-Lynn, Lorna, Joy and Mitzi! That was awesome!!!! I took pictures of the work as well to document the art work. Tomorrow they will be catering at the plaza for over 200 people. Someone passed the bar - lawyer. No update on mom. Just a UTI and possible stroke. Wonder what tomorrow will bring…
The firefly tree :-)
We are watching tv in Tagalog, Kamhal Serena/Twin Mermaid. This show is awesome! Great effects with soap opera drama. Its cracking me up! The costumes are awesome!!
Have I mentioned I am hot??? I hope I did not seem disrespectful today… I was unwilling to bend and I left the fish for others to eat. I am worried for my mom so I ate the pancakes and milk! But I think Poppa Tony wanted me to try to the marlin he made. They are without a doubt truly wonderful people and I am so very thankful for all of them! As my time here grows short I am wondering how I will pack all of this away.. including the memories.. I take so much with me!!!
